Homemade Butter in a Mason Jar
This activity is ideal for the elementary school students!
Heavy cream is made up of fat molecules and liquid, and the more you shake the cream, the more the fat separates, coming together to form a solid—butter!
Materials:
Mason Jar
Heavy Whipping Cream
Directions: Fill the jar about halfway with cream, leaving enough room to shake the jar.
Replace the lid, ensuring it’s secure, and shake the jar vigorously.
Check the contents every five minutes, and take note of how the contents change.
Repeat the previous two steps until you hear less liquid (process takes about 15 minutes total).
Enjoy your homemade butter!
