Rainbow Bath Bombs

This activity is ideal for elementary and middle school students!

This activity is a great way to watch a chemical reaction in action! When a bath bomb comes in contact with water, it begins to fizz due to the different levels of acidity—make your very own rainbow bath bombs at home!

Materials:

* baking soda

* citric acid

* corn starch

* epsom salt

* olive oil

* food coloring

* large bowl

* six small bowls or cups

* gloves

* measuring cup

Directions: Gather your materials. You’ll need: ½ cup baking soda, ½ cup citric acid, 1 tbsp cornstarch, 2 tbsp epsom salt, 2 tbsp olive oil, and food coloring.

In a bowl, thoroughly mix your ingredients, except the olive oil. Then, drizzle the olive oil and use your gloves to mix the ingredient together, you should be left with a sandy texture.

Divide the mixture evening into six small bowls or cups then add the following coloring: 4 drops pink/red in bowl one, 2 drops pink/red and 2 drops yellow in bowl two, 4 drops yellow in bowl three, 2 drops yellow and 2 drops blue in bowl four, 4 drops blue in bowl 5, 2 drops blue and 2 drops pink/red in bowl 6.

With gloves, mix the color into the mixture in each bowl.

Add some of each mixture to your measuring cup and press it down until it's compact—you can layer the mixture or sprinkle different colors, be creative!

Flip the measuring cup to demold once you've added your desired colors.

Allow your bath bombs to dry overnight, then add to water and enjoy!
